Public folders and Dropbox

So two years ago, I posted about discovering Dropbox and how amazing the service was. And still, I run into designers all the time who don’t have a Dropbox account. If you don’t have an account, you need to get one. It’s free for the account with 2GB of storage. Easy syncing between multiple computers. And an iOS app, too. Seriously, sign up now.

And one trick that I use all the time. Let’s say you have a large file that you need to send to someone. Too large to email. Every Dropbox has a public folder. Drop the file in the Public Folder. Then select the file and right mouse click. In the menu, you’ll see a Dropbox option. Select “Copy Public Link” to copy the web address for that file to the clipboard. Then, you can paste the link into an email and send. When the recipient opens the link, the file will download.
