CNN Student News

I knew that my oldest child watched CNN Student News at school last year. It's a 10-minute broadcast intended for middle school and high school and I thought it was something only offered through schools. But it's actually available to anyone online. It's a nice mix of lead stories and feature stories to keep the kids interested.

This morning, we were talking about the situation at the University of Missouri and she asked if she could watch CNN Student News. Sure enough, the lead story was the resignation of the leadership at Mizzou. I like that it gives me a framework to expose her to news and have discussions about current events. If you are looking for a way to introduce your kid to the news without having to deal with all the nasty punditry and name calling that seems to be pervasive on the news channels, CNN Student News might be a solid option for you.
