Tips on selecting type for corporate identity

I often ask my students why they picked a certain typeface their their response is either: (1) I’ve always wanted to use this font, or (2) I saw Draplin use this font and liked it. Sometimes, it’s: (3) I scrolled down the list of fonts on the computer and liked the name.

But designers should take a number of factors into account when selecting a typeface for a branding system. This post from TypeTogether lists ten tips for choosing the best fonts for corporate identity work. Personally, I’m a big fan of tip #7 — “Really liking a font isn’t enough.”
