Canon announced two new interchangeable lens, mirrorless cameras this week — the EOS R5 and the EOS R6. Both use their newer RF mount for lenses. And both look like amazing, pro-level cameras. (The R5 sports a 45 megapixel sensor and also shoots 8K video!)

I’ve been wanting to buy a mirrorless camera for a while. Both of the new cameras are out of my price range* — especially when you consider how expensive the new lenses are — but I’m now convinced that this is the future of Canon cameras. They may support the EF and M lens mounts for a while longer, but all of the awesome new technology is going to be centered about the newer R-series. If I’m going to invest in a camera system, it’s going to be a Canon EOS R of some sort.

Now if they just update their entry level camera, the RP, with some of the new technology from the R5 and R6 and add a RF 50mm 1.8, I’d have a perfect setup.

* Also, can you imagine how much storage space you would need for all of the 45 megapixel images and 8K footage that you shoot.
